Dunhuang Exhibition on Stage in Hong Kong |
[2015-01-17] The exhibition “Dunhuang - Untold Tales, Untold Riches” is currently taking place at Hong Kong Heritage Museum. The Dunhuang Caves are one of the renowned UNESCO World Heritage sites. Famed for its architecture, murals and painted stucco statues, Dunhuang Caves are dubbed the "Encyclopedia of the Middle Ages" and the "Library on the Wall". The discovery of the Library Cave at the Mogao Caves has led to the development of Dunhuangology, which specially studies Dunhuang’s grotto culture, the precious artifacts and arts.
Jointly organized with Dunhuang Academy, the exhibition showcases 120 precious relics from Dunhuang Caves, including three replica caves, a 13-metre-long statue of the Nirvāṇa Buddha, and a picture of music and dance scene with pipa played behind the back, which show the diversity and richness of Dunhuang culture. Another highlight of the exhibition is the Flying Apsaras dance demonstration and introduction. Furthermore, a guided tour by the docent from Dunhuang Academy will allow visitors to have an insight into the beauty of Dunhuang art.
Date: From now till 16th March, 2015
Venue: Hong Kong Heritage Museum, 1 Man Lam Road, Sha Tin, Hong Kong.
