18 June 2011 -- many provinces on Mainland China has been raining heavily recently, Dunhuang in Gansu Province is one of the affected cities. Due to heavy rains, some roads have been washed off, and the World Heriage site Mogao Grottoes is also affected. According to reports, the Mogao Grottoes Daquan River washed away a road for about 1 km.
Although the Mogao Grottoes was not in serious flood, the humidity exceeds the standard for the protection of cave paintings. To protect these precious wall paintings, the Mogao Grottoes is currently closed until further notice. |
