The Silk Road Dunhuang Hotel Welcomes Spring with the Launch of “Footprints in Dunhuang” Exhibition |
  
In early January 2021, The Silk Road Dunhuang Hotel finished the decoration of its exhibition hall, in time to welcome the Spring Festival (Chinese New Year) with the launch of the Footprints in Dunhuang photography exhibition series. It is a milestone for the hotel to hold an exhibition series which aims at developing a corporate culture and showcasing the cultural ambience of Dunhuang. It is also a platform for visitors to unveil the history and natural wonders of Dunhuang up-close.
To many, Dunhuang is a place to journey. The on-site exhibition kicked off with the theme Footprints in Dunhuang: The Charm of Mogao Caves in January. Here, we share with you the online exhibition which features Footprints in Dunhuang: Hearing the Camel Bells in the Desert and Sand Dunes.
Mingsha Sand Dunes and Crescent Moon Lake Nature Park is located at the southern outskirt of Dunhuang, about 5 km away from Dunhuang city in Gansu Province, China. The entire nature park is about 31,200 km2 in area, 40 km in length and 20 km in width. Mingsha Sand Dunes (literal meaning: echoing-sand mountain) are composed of tinny sands of five different colors – red, yellow, green, white and black, and wind their way up and down showing different shapes. Nestled in the Mingsha Sand Dunes, the Crescent Moon Lake is named after its crescent-like shape. The unique formation of the lake in the sand dunes has been well-known as “dunes and lake coexist along with sand and water” throughout the ages. It is also regarded as the best frontier scenery. Mingsha Sand Dunes and Crescent Moon Lake blend in with the art of Mogao Caves, becoming the two most fabulous scenic areas in the southern part of Dunhuang which attract visitors from all over the world.
In 1994, Mingsha Sand Dunes and Crescent Moon Lake Nature Park was conferred on “One of the Five Beautiful Deserts in China”. On 20 July 2015, the nature park was rated as 5A National Scenic Area. In January 2016, the China National Tourism Administration and the Environmental Protection Administration designated Mingsha Sand Dunes and Crescent Moon Lake Nature Park as National Ecological Demonstration Zone.
