Explore the Ancient Cities in Yunnan

16 November 2011, Hong Kong
– When it comes to ethnic minorities and Shangri-la, one will think of Yunnan, a province in the southwestern part of China. But Yunnan has much more to offer. Lijiang, one of the famous ancient cities, played a vital role on the Ancient Tea-Horse Road in Yunnan about a thousand years ago.  Designated as UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Ancient City of Lijiang retains its ancient look; the Sifang Street’s unique streetscape forms a square and the traditional architectures arrayed in the street tell you much about the lifestyle of the ancient caravans.

Dali was once an important gateway for cultural exchange and trade with southeastern Asian countries. It is home to 13 ethnic minorities of which the Bai people are the indigenous inhabitants.  Dali’s long history has left behind a lot of important historic relics; the most well-known are the ancient town, the Three Pagodas of Chongshen Monastery, and the ancient tablets. Stroll along the Ancient Town of Dali and you will find the intriguing side of this 600-year-old city.

This winter, explore Yunnan and embark on the cultural experience along the Ancient Tea-Horse Road.
